Woodland Park Zoo

Posted in Uncategorized | 1 Comment »

Today we went to the zoo with Dan, Michelle & Kalia – 64 degrees and cloudy – perfect time to see all the animals!

IMG_4841 A fresh Ostrich Egg – the zoo doesn’t let them hatch because there are plenty of Ostrich in the world – so they take them and blow the contents out and give them as gifts to large donors. She said the eggs are so thick and strong that you can stand on them. The egg is about the size of 20 chicken eggs.

Auntie Renee & Uncle Jeff, I was the talk of the town with my cool car set up on my stoller – other kids wondered why they didn’t have this cool contraption. I honked all the way through the zoo. “Watch out Kalia, I’m coming through!”

We had a great time! Thanks Uncle Dan & Auntie Michelle for inviting us…we should do this again real soon!

Cougar Mtn Zoo – Issaquah

Posted in Uncategorized | 1 Comment »

It was such a nice day today mommy and daddy decided to take me to the Issaquah Zoo.

IMG_4753

A couple of squawking Macaw birds – I found these guys quiet interesting because they were making all sorts of noises.

IMG_4754

These ones made even more noise…

IMG_4764

Do you know what this is? Only a bird a mother could love! This is an Emu – the largest bird native to Australia. Mommy and Daddy put Emu Oil (or as dad liked to call in Emu Spit) on my head for Craddle Cap, it was messy!

IMG_4762

Get me out of here mom, this thing could eat me!

IMG_4766

A West African Crowned Crane – did you know that cranes are one of the oldest living things dating back millions of years? Learn something new every day!

IMG_4768

Wallabies – a smaller version of a kangaroo, the female had a joey that finally came out of her pouch last week, the joey was hiding in the barn.

IMG_4769

Hey – it’s me!

IMG_4771

IMG_4773

Hey look mom, the lady behind me says this is an Alpaca, what do you think? Thankfully I have a smart mommy & daddy and they set me straight by letting me know this is actually a Mule Deer. I wonder where that lady went to school? Obviously not Hough because I know they teach you better there!

IMG_4776 Giddy Up Turtle!

IMG_4782

Guess what this is? A hairy Alpaca!!! Maybe we should go tell the lady where to find the Alpacas…her kids are going to be very confused!

IMG_4787

Eeek! He’s going to eat me.

IMG_4789

This guy was chatty and spit all over everyone standing there including me. Gross! Occasionally when humans or other alpacas get a little too close for comfort, alpacas spit.  Spitting is their way of saying, “NO, I don’t like that. Stop what you are doing!” They can’t talk, so this is their, ahem, nonverbal way to voice their displeasure over something. Alpacas are totally defenseless. All they’ve got is their spit.

IMG_4790

Mommy was feeding them apples so I could get up close and personal.

IMG_4800

Help! The Javelina’s got me!

IMG_4798

IMG_4803

This parrot was super cool, I could have watched him talk all day long.

IMG_4804

IMG_4806

I watched the parrot for a long time. I wish I could talk like that!

IMG_4807

Fun Facts -  Macaws are considered to be the most intelligent of all birds and are called by many biologists the Flying Primates.

IMG_4808

Checkin’ out the Lemurs, that guy was all over the place, kind of spastic like my cat Flora – daddy didn’t get a picture but it was cool!

If you are ever in town you should be sure to check out the zoo, while it is small it is still really neat. I hope my mom and dad will take me back soon.
